Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. 50 out of 200 is 50 ÷ 200 × 100 = 25%.
How do I find X% of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. 15% of 35,000 is 35,000 × 15 ÷ 100 = 5,250.
How is percentage change calculated?
(new − old) ÷ old × 100. From 80 to 100 is a 25% increase; from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease — the base is always the original value.
What's the difference between % and percentage points?
Percentage points are the simple difference between two rates. A rate going from 3% to 4% rises 1 percentage point, which is a 33.3% relative increase.
