Frequently asked questions

Do line breaks count as characters?
In 'with spaces' each line break counts as one character. Some sites count line breaks differently, so leave a little margin below a strict limit.
Should I use 'with spaces' or 'without spaces'?
Most forms and application sites count characters including spaces. If a field says 'without spaces' or 'bytes', use that number instead.
How many bytes is a character?
Latin letters, digits and spaces are 1 byte. In UTF-8, Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters are usually 3 bytes. Both counts are shown.
